I’ve been quoted a price of $4,000. The two items that concern me are the EGL cert and the high table. Is this diamond worth the price?

It sounds like a "fair" price.
The table is a bit big. The cutter was trying for a large "spread"; meaning they tried to maximize the length/width size from the crystal. The facets on the top of the stone should be matched with the facets on the bottom for maximum sparkle.
VS2 by definition is NOT visible with the naked eye, however if there is any irregularity, you would be more likely to see it with an emerald cut stone over a round or oval or pear shape.
It is good to look for a loose stone (so you can compare "apples to apples". My advice is to shop around and compare. Don’t worry … you will make an informed and good choice. Oh, one more thing, shop with a jeweler, not just discount stores. You will do a better job of getting what you pay for AND you will start building a relationship with someone you can trust, so when it comes time to have the ring cleaned, sized, appraised, repaired etc. you will have someone you can trust and feel comfortable with doing the work. A jeweler is someone you can have an "old time" working relationship with that will payoff many times over, in the future. Besides that, you will get some great deals with anniversary purchases in the future.

My boyfriend and I are looking at engagement rings and I would like to have a ring that isn’t a diamond. I know swarovski makes jewelry with their crystals, but would a swarovski crystal work as an engagement ring? I have been looking at emerald cut stones and would like some type of clear or clearish stone that would look nice in a white gold setting, and am thinking a swarovski crystal would look really nice as an emerald cut ring. Any other suggestions for stones that would look nice as an engagement ring would be helpful also.

Just wondering what are the best three c’s for a diamond engagement ring I can get for $2000? I’m looking for 3 stone Emerald cuts.
To me the order of C’s is Cut, Colour then Clarity. Carat weight to me isn’t as important because I would rather have the sparkliest diamond that is smaller than "average" than having a big diamond that doesn’t have as much fire (which is exactly what I have, it’s .6 carats – which looks huge on my less than size 4 finger – but it sparkles across the room).
Cut doesn’t refer to the shape of the diamond (round, princess) it refers to the quality of cut and number of facets on the diamond, which give it the sparkle.

my boyfriend and i are getting engaged but his looking for a ring, but i guess i made it hard on him when i told him my dream ring is a emerald cut diamond sitting on a white gold band and big enough for anyone to see it from a mile away…(well not that extreme but you know what i mean)….i just dont’ want a small ring that i know i will cry over being so damn small, now i am not a brat i just like nice things.
